One of the most remarkable initiatives I delivered while working for Yangon Heritage Trust was the free walking tour programme for local residents. At a time when heritage issues received minimal attention from both the public and authorities, and had rarely been discussed widely, this initiative was particularly significant. In 2014, we launched the free walking tours to explore the heart of the city, revealing many untold heritage stories and previously unexplored historic buildings. Conducted in Burmese and held twice a month with the support of dedicated volunteers, these tours quickly became a hit, especially among history enthusiasts and the younger generations.
