In August 2018, Telenor Group and UNICEF Myanmar launched the Mobile Birth and Death Registration (MBDR) Project which allowed all Township Medical Officers across Mon State in Southern Myanmar to register and issue certificates using a digital mobile recording system for the first time in the country. The pilot project aimed to increase birth and death registration coverage and improve data confidentiality and security. It was also expected to enhance the productivity of basic health staff by significantly reducing paper forms and expanding the use of mobile technology.
The project was officially launched in Naypyitaw in August 2018, in the presence of union-level government officials, representatives from UNICEF Headquarters, the UNICEF Representative to Myanmar, and local and international media. Not only did I organise the ceremony from behind the curtain, but I also acted as a spokesperson of Telenor Myanmar while assisting the representatives from the headquarters for their media engagement.
