Internal and External Communications at the Telenor Myanmar

Telenor Myanmar was a business unit owned by the Norwegian multinational telecom operator between 2014 and 2022. The company stood as one of the largest telcos in this Southeast Asian country with 18 million customers countrywide until the 2021 coup d'état. Following the uncertainties in the country, the company was sold off to a Labenese business group in 2022.

I spearheaded internal communication campaigns to keep employees informed and engaged, enhancing company culture and clearly articulating business strategy. I organised events, managed a content calendar, and provided crisis communication during the pandemic, a military coup, and the company's exit. Additionally, I supported the management of the company's and leaders' social media profiles.

Manager, Corporate Communications

As the manager, I performed corporate public relations, increasing brand exposure through media and serving as the first point of contact for the press.
I aligned the communication strategy with the company's vision and maintained stakeholder relationships. I managed media relations, organised press events, and advised top management. Additionally, I coordinated with regional and global teams on cross-border projects.
Public and Media Relations at the Yangon Heritage Trust

Yangon Heritage Trust (YHT) is a non-governmental organisation founded in 2012 to preserve and protect historic heritage buildings in Yangon (formerly Rangoon), the former capital of Burma, which houses Asia's largest collection of colonial-era buildings. YHT advocates for heritage protection, develops clear and sustainable policy options, and promotes the proper conservation of Yangon’s rich urban heritage within a cohesive planning framework. It engages with government, business, and civil society, communicates its ideas to the widest possible audience, undertakes specific conservation projects, and facilitates research and training.

Media and Communications Manager

I secured impactful media coverage in Myanmar and international press, and organised public outreach in partnership with donors and interest groups. I established and managed website content and social media profiles, supported top management in public and media engagements, and provided communication support for reports and fundraising proposals. I crafted communication strategies and key messages for outreach campaigns and introduced a free walking tour program in 2014 to raise awareness about heritage conservation. Additionally, I catalogued photo exhibitions and supervised the creation of public advocacy materials.

As a correspondent for AFP in Yangon, I covered news and events for international readers under tight deadlines. Some of the remarkable headlines that I authored include the historic political events in the country such as the victory of the opposition party and a series of civil unrest, economic developments such as the abolishment of the dollar surrogate in the country, the enactment of the first foreign investment bill, and many others.

Chief Political Reporter at the Myanmar Times

At The Myanmar Times, I served as Chief Political Reporter, leading election coverage and reporting on parliamentary developments. I was also selected by the Thomson Reuters Foundation to join a training program in London. Working also as a Senior Sub-editor and Sub-editor, I authored articles on politics and diplomacy, mentored reporters, and contributed to the newspaper's layout.
